Lion cubs oil painting

24" x 18" oil on canvas

This was a nice change from the usual type of commission and I very much enjoyed painting these two. There was a challenge as I was requested to give the painting more colour and variety than the reference photograph - not the easiest thing to do but it was fun! Tomorrow I will share the original photograph for you to see the difference.

Dalmatian oil portrait - Ziggy

12" x 16" oil on canvas

This evening's painting is another lovely Dalmatian. This gorgeous boy lived a very long and much loved happy life. There is not much more we can hope for our dogs.

Standard Poodle Oil Painting Portrait

8" x 10" oil on cradled panel

This standard poodle was diagnosed with a serious illness a few years ago and it seemed unlikely he would survive. However, the combination of skilled surgeons, devoted owners and his own indomitable spirit meant he survived to enjoy a happy and full life.

Sadly all good things must come to an end. RIP Louis.

Dalmatian in oils - Bailey

Oils on canvas - 16" x 12"

I told the following brief story on my facebook page (Anne Zoutsos Artist) and thought I'd share it with you all too.

When I was little I heard a story about a man who carved beautiful little horses. One day he carved one which was so perfect, it galloped away. It is my hope that one day one of my paintings will bark...

This very handsome Dalmatian, painted in oils, is greatly missed by his devoted owner. RIP Bailey.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel oil portrait

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel - Barney. 16" x 20" oil on canvas

Some dogs have such sweet expressions, all you want to do is hug them and that's exactly how I felt when I was painting Barney. Such a darling face.

I was very upset to learn of Barney's passing shortly before his owners received his portrait but was gratified that at least it brought some comfort to them. RIP Barney.

Dalmatian oil painting - Tia

20" x 16" oil on canvas

As regular readers will know, I haven't got my blog postings properly organised yet, but I'm getting there!

Meanwhile, another Dalmatian for you. A sad story as this young girl, so full of life and living, was diagnosed as suffering from leukaemia and her life ended at the very premature age of 6. She is still greatly missed by her owner. RIP sweetheart.

Dalmatian oil portrait

'Katti' - 16" x 20" oil on canvas

It's been a long time since I've posted on my blog. Those of you who've been around for some time will probably notice that there is a change in the design of this blog. This is to co-ordinate it with my new website which has very recently been published. If anyone notices any mistakes with the website, I'd be grateful if you could drop me a note to let me know.

Meanwhile I've been busy painting of course and have quite a few paintings to share with you. I'm starting with my most recently finished commission of a stunning Dalmatian girl - how lovely she was and I can understand how much her owner misses her...

I will try and organise myself to update this blog efficiently but again, those who have been around before will know that organisation isn't exactly my forte!

Welcome back everyone!

Dalmatian - Disney

Dalmatian Disney - 16" x 12" oil on linen canvas

I had meant to publish this photo directly after the post of the video showing a painting being opened as this was what was being unwrapped. Oh well, to quote Robert Burns - "The best-laid schemes o' mice an' men gang aft agley"!

Longhaired Dachshund portrait

Longhaired Dachshund - Oil on canvas 16" x 12"

As I explained on my Facebook page (Anne Zoutsos Artist), I'm still trying to catch up with posting my paintings. The one featured today was a pre-Christmas commission so at this rate I'll still be posting last year's Christmas portraits just before this Christmas! Oh well, painting's more important than posting - or it is to me although I suppose it's not the way to be when social networking is so important these days. Whoops!

Poodle pet portrait

Poodle portrait - 7" x 7" oil on MDF panel

This painting was finished shortly after Christmas. The person commissioning the portrait had hoped to have it in time for a Christmas gift but I explained that this wouldn't be possible and so they decided that they would go ahead anyway.

It is always unpleasant having to disappoint people but this happens every year as, I suppose understandably, the general public don't fully realise the time it takes to paint portraits and many leave it too late.

The moral of the story - get your Christmas portraits booked in plenty of time!

Rottweiler dog portrait in oils

Baloo - 10" x 8" oil on linen

There never seem to be enough hours in the day to paint, walk the dogs, cuddle the dogs and cope with all the normal hundred and one (or in my case one hundred and one!) things of normal day to day living. Some items get left and in my case, keeping my blog up to date has been suffering.

Today's painting is a recently completed oil of a lovely sweet rottweiler who I have had the honour of bringing back for his owners.

If you would like to commission a painting please email me at info@azpaintings.com. Please bear in mind that there is a waiting list but if you have a specific date you require the painting for or there is some other urgency about its completion, do ask as I can often move things around to accommodate such requests.

Liver spotted Dalmatian pet portrait commission

12" x 16" oil on linen stretched canvas

Here is my most recent commission - not a particularly easy one as the photographic reference wasn't very good as the main photo of his head was very small indeed. In fact this painting is made up of two photographs as the owner particularly wanted this expression - being typical of him - but the photo only went half way down his chest. Fortunately she had another photo of him in almost the same pose - with his head in a different position - so it wasn't too difficult although the way the spots change shape according to slight changes of position in the dog have to be seen to be believed!

This was also a very difficult painting to photograph accurately and I'm going to have to check it today for accuracy. Then rush, rush, rush, carry on with the next commission!

If you'd like to contact me my email address is info@azpaintings.com.

Golden Retriever in Chair

Golden Retriever in Chair - 16" x 12" oil on canvas

This painting took a long time to paint and I have to thank this lovely dog's owner for being so extraordinarily patient! I'm very pleased with the result though (even if it has added a few grey hairs in the process!) and am happy to report his owner is delighted with the painting.
