Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me - 7" x 5" oil on hardboard/masonite

This is another dog rescued by Eileen, the woman who rescued the dog in the painting "In A Dog's Eyes".

Indie was a puppy rescued from a the Metro Animal Services shelter in Louisville, KY, where Eileen says that most animals are euthanized. She was shy, stressed and scared. Another puppy in the kennel who looked just like Indie was adopted but returned to the shelter a few months later and was going to be euthanized. Eileen pleaded her case and got her out to an adoption event at Petsmart where she was adopted by a wonderful family.

   

Eileen herself adopted Indie and Indie is a sweet natured, happy girl now - full of fun and love.

The title of this painting, from the song of the same name, came to me while I was painting it and I feel it is particularly apt for all those dogs in shelters who are in danger of losing their lives while waiting for their own special family.

When this painting is sold, I will make a donation of 10% from the profits to an animal rescue charity. I haven't decided which one yet as I'm wondering whether a pitbull rescue might be appropriate as Indie is one of this breed and I know they have a difficult time finding homes in view of their reputation. I will let the purchaser know which charity will be the recipient and also post it here.  Following some research, I've decided the charity which will benefit from any donation from the sale of this painting will be Bad Rap Pitbull Rescue.

I am a coward. I have tried not to be, but I am.

I cannot face the suffering endured by so many dogs and so I leave it to others to pick up the pieces. I can't even read of the traumas which the little innocents suffer. I am of course far from proud of this but have had to come to terms with the reality of my situation.

I can paint. Not everyone will like what or how I paint, but I know that there are quite a lot who do. This is my way therefore to try and do what little I can to ease the lives of animals whose existence is made so very hard and sad by the actions of my fellow humans. I am very grateful to my collectors who have done a great deal to help with the necessary finances to aid workers 'on the ground'.

I quote below what has been said of the puppy featured in today's painting -

"Annabelle - Female of a litter of pups found wandering with mange so bad they had no fur. When taken to the vet, we found out she has a heart defect. She then contracted parvo in which she had to stay at the vet for a few days - but is now healthy!"

The title of this painting reflects what I hope for this little girl - that she will come out of the dark into the light of a happy life.

ADDENDUM: BAMA Bully Rescue has written this about the puppy in this painting: "Annabelle is the little dog that steals everyone's heart as soon as they meet her or hear her story.

She is recovering well, but still has a ways to go before she is 100%. In the time being, she is being spoiled and loved on by her foster family :)"

Happy Girl by Anne Zoutsos - 6" x 6" oil on hardboard/masonite

This poor, thin, undernourished dog was found by a young couple. She had been tied to a stake and abandoned in a park. Unfortunately these people had two large dogs of their own and so couldn't keep her. They put her details online and luckily a prospective owner saw these, went to meet this pitbull (probable) mix and fell in love with her. He adopted her and.....they lived happily ever after.

This girl was fortunate to be adopted by a caring and loving owner - nearly 5 years ago now. Sadly the same cannot be said for a great many dogs and this breed has probably suffered more abuse at the hands of humans than many others.

If you're thinking of buying or adopting a dog, make sure you get a dog that will fit in with your lifestyle - take advice if necessary. Don't forget - a dog is for life.

10% donation to Old Dog Haven who care for and rehome senior dogs who often find it so difficult to find new homes
